Birthdays

Birthdays hit at our home for Maddox, Kurt, and I. Mine is near the end of September and Maddox and Kurt start October. I am inching closer and closer to thirty (27)....eew! lol. Kurt took the kids and I to breakfast and then we attempted to hit the beach, out near Carpinteria. Unfortunately the weather was pretty ugly for a beach day, I was freezing!! My idea of a beach day is HOT HOT HOT! I stayed on the blanket wrapped in a beach towel and all my clothes the whole time. I was not about to change into my swimsuit...brr. I had fun watching Emmitt and Alaina run around and dig for sandcrabs. Kids are so oblivious to cold weather. Alaina is a bit more like me though she would be fine for about 5 minutes then have to snuggle up to get warm. Crazy Kurt decided to go in the water! Later that evening, Eliana came over to babysit. Kurt and I went to WinCo got some goodies and hit up the dollar theater. (pretty much my 2 favorite things about Bakersfield- WinCo and dollar theaters) We saw Cowboys and Aliens, and we were the only ones in there. It was pretty awesome, we both really liked the movie.

Maddox' birthday is the day before Kurts and he turned 2! I wrapped his presents that morning and he came walking into the kitchen saw them sitting on top of our microwave all wrapped up and got super excited. Funny how at 2 they already know. He made this squeal of excitement and kept pointing at them saying, "presents presents!" I told him they were for him because it's his birthday and he shouted, "YAY!!" I then told him he had to wait though until his brother and sister were home from school and he politely said ok. Then I went upstairs to tell Kurt how smart Maddox is, when we came back down Maddox had a present partially unwrapped in his hand! He pulled a little covert op and dragged a kitchen chair over to the microwave and then climbed up and grabbed a present, hid behind the table and ripped the paper off. Time to start locking things up around here. He looked so cute with his guilty face holding paper in one hand and his present in the other.

When we came over to him he just gave us this cute puppy face and said, "choo choo." ha ha. How can you be mad at that? I just let him have it and took the other 2 gifts upstairs. We had a nice little family celebration at home. Maddox loves choo choo trains so we got him a set and some Chuggington train cars.

For Kurts birthday (32), he had scheduled work so the following weekend I planned for us to do a little getaway with his parents. We drove out to Palm Springs and stayed in a nice resort there, and got some much needed downtime. It was conference weekend so it worked out perfectly. We got to relax and actually watch (and hear) conference. We ordered room service, and went dancing. It was a very nice relaxing weekend.

Like Father, Like Son. Emmitt digging in on Maddox' leftover birthday cake, and Kurt chowing on his leftover banana cream birthday pie.

Leighton Meester Concert

Last night my awesome husband watched the babies for me so I could attend a concert in Beverly Hills/Santa Monica area with my good friend Jenna. I had heard about it on Twitter and bought tickets right away. Leighton Meester, for those who don't know, stars on the tv show Gossip Girl and the movie Country Strong along with a couple others. Yes, I admit I am a fan of Gossip Girl. I love it actually and Leightons character is probably my fave. Her love of Audrey Hepburn movies show she's a girl after my own heart. Anyway, she has started to dabble in the music biz and she has a beautiful voice. You can get an inkling of her voice on Country Strong where she sang all her own songs. This concert was different than the music you can find of hers on the net, she has some country songs and some pop songs but this show was more acoustic music. Totally loved it! She played with a band called Check in the Dark who were also awesome. It was fun to go with a girlfriend, Jenna is a fun girl and we always have a good time together.

Cute TINY Leighton- ya my camera sux.

Check in the dark, they opened for her and also were her band for the night. The lead singer did a cute duet with her as well.

Fight it 10k

This last Saturday I participated in a fight against cancer 10k fundraising event. The morning was perfect running weather a bit chilly if your just standing around but perfect for running. My parents came out to support me, I was so grateful to have them there it gave me that extra oomph! My Mom has an awesome camera and photography skills so we got some cute pics. Kurt and the kiddos also were there, so glad Emmitt did not have a tball game- they entertained themselves by running around and petting the various animals around.

Maddox was hamming it up before the race, so stinkin cute!

The chik-fil-a cow was a hit.

The course was a cross country course which means it's not pavement. This was my first run with that type of experience, it was a little challenging. Parts of the course were very much like running at the beach- super soft sand, going uphill leaves for not a whole lot of traction but powered through the best I could. I have been running at least 3 days/week with a friend of mine who I lovingly call "Speedy Gonzales" cause she's quick! She pushes me and the pushing has paid off. We run 6 miles everytime we go and a 10k is 6 point something (ha ha) miles. We run it in an hour minimum, and I finished the race at 51 mins 19 seconds! Good time for me. % I finished second place for the ladies! And 18th overall. Not bad, slowly but surely the tortoise may just become the hare...lol.+

My Daddy and I before the race+

Lovin on his Dad and getting sleepy.

A view of the starting line, I was impressed to see so many kids there doing the 5k. I would love for my kids to be in track.

Halfway through about to start my next round- the 10k'ers had to just repeat the 5k course.

Clapping at my Maddox as I run past- he was way out on the very edge of the course thinking I was coming to pick him up, love that boy.

My finish photo- 51:19 had to take my jacket off on my way back the last half- WAY too hot!!

I just got this nike shirt a little while ago cause it cracked me up, it says: "As long as your sweating, you're still alive." Good Motto. %

Half Marathon- mission complete

This morning Kurt and I woke up to the daunting task of having to run a half marathon! 13.1 miles to be exact. The race was to begin at 7 am, we put on our Santa Clarita marathon shirts, our race numbers, our trackers on our shoes, and our shorts and off we went. When we arrived we thought we would see a ton of people since according to our clock it was 6:48 am. We forgot about daylight savings so we were quite early. I was freezing which isn't saying much because I get cold easily. We watched the crew of people set up to starting lines and speakers. We danced to some music and waited what felt like forever for the race to begin. I could not believe how many people were there, it was crazy!! They had a full marathon, a 5k, and a kids run all going on too.

First pic of the morning, freezing my bum off and in the middle of a sentence. Love it when Kurt snaps pictures while I'm talking...awesome.

AMPED to start the race!

The announcer gave instructions on where to go for your race, and when to start. He also had a funny little unexpected announcement of informing the crowd that they had a dance competition winner, which there never actually was a competition for. He said that this girl had been there all morning and was dancing and she didn't know it yet but they were watching her, so give a big round of applause for number 1965 winner of our dance competition!! Which just so happened to be.....ME! LOL!! I was laughing so hard and waved my hand around as he then proceeded to interview me in front of the mass amount of people. I curtsied upon winning and laughed it up with Kurt. As soon as he said dance competition I knew I was in trouble. If there's music I will dance come crowd or no crowd, rain or shine...lol.
Anyway onto our race, a cute little eleven yr old girl sang the national anthem which was awesome and then bang went to the gun and we were off!

Kurt ran ahead of me a bit to get a good pic of the start of the race. We stayed at a great pace and kept with each other as we chugged along. I was so impressed with the volunteers!! They had so many cute kids helping at the water checkpoints and everything was really well organized. Everything was going wonderfully, we were laughing and joking with other racers and having a good time. I was really nervous about this race because I still have injuries from my car accident and my legs tend to act up a ton. Nothing hurt until about mile 9 when my left knee (which has had trouble since before my car accident) started to feel it was going to give. I was kicking myself for not bringing my knee brace.

But I kept pushing anyway, I was cracking Kurt up by talking to my knee and telling it I did not give it permission to hurt and that it needed to stop now! lol. Kurt was awesome and I loved that he was my running partner! It was really nice to be able to accomplish this race together. We completed it and that's one goal crossed off my checklist! It felt great to run it and I think it would be awesome to do another one. As for the aftermath my knee still hurts but other than that we're great just in need of sleep. Time- 2:37

Beauty School Dropout

I keep getting asked about Beauty School so I thought that I would clarify. I think I posted something on this before but it was mixed in with some other things so maybe that's why it was skipped over. Anyway, I am no longer in beauty school. I made the decision to dropout after my accident. I was given about a month of time off to recover and what not, but I had to make a decision. The accident brought up the big IF'S....you know the questions we all try desperately not to reflect on, even though try as we might they still come up. For me the big if was what if something would have happened to my kids?? (I was not alone in that car when it rolled end over end 3 times, my 3 children were with me) Then followed by the what if comes the... would I? Would I look back and know that I spent all the time I could with my kids? Would I be satisfied that I did ALL I could do? The answer to that question was NO.

Now Beauty School may seem like a small thing, a small sacrifice of time away from my kids. What it boils down to is, my kids still need me. They are still just that: kids, babies. Eventually they will get to the stage where they don't want Mom around anymore, where they are so caught up in their own lives and social activities that a small piece of time in school won't matter. When that time comes I will be right back in school, because a goal yet to be accomplished will stay a goal. It's a definite to do, just not at this stage of the game. I can't be proud going off pursuing my own dreams when my children need me to help discover theirs. So yes, I am a beauty school dropout for now. The great thing is the school has no contingency, as long as the school is operational I have till forever to come back and pick up where I left off. I will be a cosmetologist, just not in the next year. My family will ALWAYS come first.

26th Birthday Laughs

I celebrated my 26th birthday back on September 22, it was tons of fun! Kurt took me out the night before, and surprised me when we pulled up to roller rink. I have not been rollerskating since I was 5. I was excited but also nervous. I knew I would look like Bambi on ice, which is exactly what happened but fun to laugh at myself. This rink was really cool they had fun music playing and seemed like it would be a great place to go as a family. After the roller rink, we went to the dance club that we go to most often when we want to dance. We got there pretty early so the dance floor was nice and clear for us to take over! $ I LOVE dancing with Kurt it is soooo much fun. We definitely got our groove and sweat on. lol. After we left we were so elated that we had some fun taking pictures and laughing hysterically at ourselves. It is very difficult to take a picture of 2 people when one of them has to be holding the camera. These pictures pretty much speak for themselves.

The day of my birthday Kurt surprised me by refinishing our bedroom furniture. I kept telling him I wanted to sand it all down and paint it, so for my birthday he took on the task. We've had our bedroom furniture since we've been married and it's pretty but old and wood finish. I have been redecorating our bedroom so it's black and white and has a paris romance feel. So he sanded it all down primed and painted it black then we roughed it up a bit to make it a bit more shabby. It looks BEAUTIFUL, now we just need new handles or knobs for it. (SO no pics till we get those.)Anyway after he worked on that project we went to see Inception with Leonardo Dicaprio. TOTALLY recommend!

LOVED this movie, very different than anything else out there and amazing!! Some people reviewed it hard to follow but it's not as long as you are actually paying attention. After the movie we had dinner at "our place" Black Angus and of course indulged in some Big Mtn Fudge cake. Then Kurt told me we weren't going home for the night and headed to a hotel where we were able to have a lovely time without kids.$ It was a great start to my 26th year!
